When I got married I thought it would be for life. When it does not work you feel like such a failure, but it takes two to make it work. I felt bad for wanting to leave my spouse as well as my children; they were involved in something ugly they didn’t understand or deserve.

After 21 years of trying to make things work without any success, I finally found the courage to take control of MY life and do something that seemed so selfish, but was so necessary to survive.

I felt so alone and was getting angry and depressed. After a lot of prayer and soul searching, I decided I was not going to live like that any longer, and I decided to make a move and start a new life.

I still struggle sometimes with the guilt of hurting the people that mean the most to me, but am so much happier that I removed myself from such a controlling, negative situation.

I finally realized that if I do not make a change, in 20 more years I’d still be in the same situation. I made a decision, took a leap of faith, and started a new healthier life and today I am very happy. It takes time, but each day gets a little better. – Cathy, PA
