Mohammad, OH
I am a Muslim who was raised in the United States. Although raised in the US, I have been discriminated against since my younger years. It’s gotten worse as I’ve gotten older. The sad reality in America is that many Muslim people are discriminated against. I am always pulled aside at the airport, I’ve been discriminated against in the workplace and so on. I would be lying if I said I’m not affected by how others view me at times. However, I have learned to stop wasting my energy on those who only view me based on my religion or outward appearance. It’s harder to do somedays, but I remember that I am so loved by family as well as friends of all races and ethnicities. Unfortunately, Racial/Religious discrimination is not going anywhere anytime soon. My advice is to try to spend your time and energy on individuals who see past your physical appearance and those that actually view you as ‘you’. My ‘circle’ has gotten tighter over the years, but it’s also much stronger. - Mohammad, OH
